LHM Youth Lifestyle Information – Vaping

It is hard to walk down the street without having to avoid huge clouds of vape smoke. Vaping is very popular. So popular that 8 vapes are thrown away every second! Just because something is popular, it does not mean you have to try it. It is important to remember your heart if friends/peers are offering you a vape. It is illegal to buy a vape if you are under 18 – it is also illegal for an adult to buy a vape for anyone under 18
We still do not know the long-term health risks for vaping as it is such a new craze, but we do know the short term. We also do not want to see any of our youth members become case studies for long term risks, so it is best to avoid it.
Short term health risks
Many vapes contain nicotine which is highly addictive. Being addicted to nicotine can be bad for your mental health. It can cause anxiety, make you irritable and give you headache. It can also negatively affect your concentration. If you have half a working heart, you might find that your concentration is already affected by low energy levels, this would just make it worse.
If you have asthma vaping can make your symptoms worse. We know how important getting oxygenated blood around your body is when you have half a working heart. We also know that you only have one pump doing the work of two, so it is best not to make this even harder by vaping.
