LHM Youth Lifestyle Information – Smoking

In the last 20 years the number of young people smoking has dropped by half which is great. It means more and more young people are listening to the health risks and making healthy choices.
There are still young people that smoke however, and the risks are even higher when you have half a working heart. Smoking can increase your heart rate and put more strain on it, whilst increasing your blood pressure. All things you want to avoid for your heart. It also releases poisons into your body that increases the chance of heart attacks and cancer. Smoking over time damages your arteries and can even form blood clots.
All these risks can really stop your heart from working well so it is best to never smoke or even try it. It is really addictive.
Remember the legal age to buy cigarettes in the UK is 18.
