LHM Youth Lifestyle Information – Exercise Prescription

Exercise prescription might be something you haven’t heard of before and that’s totally fine, not all hospitals work with exercise prescriptions. The people that have used them have told us that they’re a really handy tool. They’re great not just for you to understand what exercise best for you, but to also explain to others such as PE teachers and extracurricular groups.
The university of Exeter did some research and put together a physical activity tool kit just for young people living with CHD and in this tool, kit was the exercise prescription form.
This form can be filled out by a member of your hospital team and shown to others so they can see and understand;
- What type of exercise you can do
- How long you can exercise for
- The intensity that suits you and your heart
- What is best to avoid
If you are finding that either understanding/remembering what exercise is healthy for you this form is a great reminder.
If you are finding that some people find it hard to understand your heart condition and how it effects sports and exercise handing them this form can really help. If you can get your cardiologist or cardiac liason nurse to fill it out it also makes quite the impact.
