Can you help us to support a family in need?

Support volunteers

Little Hearts Matter membership families are seeking support and information when they contact the LHM team. Sometimes they want to talk through medical or lifestyle information but often they are seeking other parents to talk to about what life is like every day when a child has half a working heart.

The telephone and network service volunteer teams are all involved in offering support to the many LHM members and support line callers who use our services every year.

Telephone support line

Parent volunteers are there to:-

• Offer parent-to-parent insight into life with single ventricle heart disease.
• Offer a listening ear in times of stress and worry.
• Provide a signposting service to other support or information services.
• Report concerns about members to the main office team.

Specialist telephone and social media support services

Parent volunteers are able to:

• Share in-depth knowledge on a specific subject such as antenatal diagnosis or transplantation.
• Offer parent-to-parent experience of the specific subject.
• Provide signposting to other services and LHM information packs.
• Report concerns about members to the main office team.

Bereavement support

Parent volunteers are able to offer:

• Parent-to-parent support and understanding around the loss of a child to congenital heart disease, chd.
• Ongoing social media and telephone support.
• Bereavement representation and support at LHM events.
• Guidance on bereavement publications.

Network leaders

There are 16 regional network groups spread throughout the UK.

LHM aims to have two network leaders in each area.

Network parent volunteers are able to offer:

• A welcome to the charity from a parent perspective.
• Parent-to-parent support within regional groups.
• Organisation of regional events.
• Signposting to other LHM services.
• Links to the local cardiac unit.
• Possible hospital visits.
