Volunteering

We always need volunteers to come and help during LHM events for our youth members, find out more about the opportunities below.

Events like our Open Day and Activity Weekends wouldn’t be possible without the help from wonderful volunteers who help provide a great experience for our youth members. We have a number of our young adult members (aged 16+) who volunteer with us, as well as other people who like to help out.

During our Open Days, youth team volunteers can expect to help by facilitating workshop sessions for our youth members as well as making sure that they are getting involved, making friends, and enjoying themselves.

Our Activity Weekends are normally held at PGL centres around the UK as well as other fun locations and involve supporting the young members to take part in the activities – a lot of the time you get to do the activities too! These are usually residential so making sure out youth members are comfortable and feel safe.

You will receive:

  • Safeguarding training
  • Briefing around the unique difficulties young people with half a heart face
  • Help on how to adapt and what you need to do to meet their needs
  • All travel expenses reimbursed

Previous experience of working with children and young people is desirable, but not necessary.

SVHC’s are a form of complex congenital heart condition. The child has only one working heart pump, affecting the flow of oxygenated blood around the body.

We are the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting families affected by the diagnoses of a single ventricle heart condition. Learn more here - bit.ly/lhm-SVHC
