Little Hearts Matter provide a great support network before, during and after a hospital stay and helping to fund this service is a priority to my family, friends and myself.
There really is nothing more rewarding that organising, taking part and completing a fundraising event.
Over the past few years I have organised and taken part in many different events.
The reason for my fundraising is my nephew Lewis, who was born eight years ago with HLHS, and who has endured so much in his short life. Lewis has had many open heart surgeries and lengthy stays in Alder Hey, and more recently in St Evelina’s, which is hundreds of miles from home and family, and the little touches that LHM gave were a lovely respite from the monotony during his stay in PICU and HDU.
Lewis recently had his single lung Fontan, and despite our family going through many dark days at the time (Mum, Laura and Dad, Nad and the rest of the close family including his bestfriend and brother Noah) and being described as the sickest child in PICU, he came out fighting on the other side, and is doing so well that my own fully working heart swells with pride when I see how well he copes with everyday life.
