The target was to raise £4,000 – the final total was nearer £8,000 and the whole experience was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
Twenty years ago my nephew, Eddie, was born with half a heart (HLHS).
Fast-forward 20 years and Eddie is a vibrant character, very much full of life, enjoying his education and independence. And whilst his life will never be ‘normal’ in the sense that I perhaps consider mine to be, it is no less valuable..
In 2015 I completed my 20th year with my current employer and in doing so earned an extra 20 days holiday. The question was how to spend those valuable extra days? This led me, unsurprisingly, to the idea of cycling and raising money for Little Hearts Matter. After some basic maths and a few hours spent poring over a map of the UK, I decided it would be possible to ride to the four compass points of mainland Great Britain. A total of 4,000 kilometres in four weeks. The target was to raise £4,000 – the final total was nearer £8,000 and the whole experience was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
