‘Another Dad Said That Seeing Isobel…Had Given Them Hope’- Paul on his daughter Isobel

Paul recalls his daughter Isobel’s birth. He and his wife were the calmest couple in the hospital. Another couple in a neighboring cot even told him ‘she has you wrapped around her little finger’.

This is certainly true, Paul and Isobel are very close. However, their relationship was so powerful that his wife had to remind her that she was there too! He certainly loves Isabel to bits.

Paul does admit that as a parent, he definitely overdid thing.

‘Feeding tube or not, we were going to meet people.’

Paul recalls the many episodes of mindless joy of having Isobel. A friend once told him: ‘If anything, children with disabilities are even more loved.’ Paul certainly feels that way.

However, being a dad to a heart child does come with its share of hardship. He suggests that being a dad brings out so many good qualities, but it can be tiring. That’s when some ‘less desirable attributes’ show forth.  He also had some darker thoughts at the start, but over time, they subsided.

Paul loves documenting his and Isobel’s life, with wonky videos and lots of photographs.

Little Heart Matter has been a wonderful resource, always accessible despite being so busy. We have gained so much from the 2 AGMs we’ve made it to. At this years Villa Park event, another dad said that seeing Isobel (then aged 2) at the 2012 AGM had given them hope going forward with their own pregnancy. That sort of comment makes it all worthwhile.

"We spent Jordan's 12th birthday at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, he's a real adrenaline junkie! (We did, of course, get the green light from our cardiologist first!)Jordan's first few years were rough, he spent more time in hospital than at home. He was so poorly for years and needed a wheelchair, oxygen and feeding tube for over half his life. Fast forward to now, Jordan has been stable for the last few years. Sometimes I forget he has half a heart, not because we have forgotten, but because he is living life to the full. Jordan still has challenges in life related to his heart, but we have embraced that our "normal" is different and we welcome that into our routine. We have gone from living out of suitcases hours away from home to feeling lucky and cherishing every moment whilst things are like this x."Shared by Elis, heart-mum to Jordan here, thank you. #mynormalisdifferent ...
