LHM Open Day & AGM, The Beeches Conference Centre, Birmingham.
Saturday 21st November 2020

The Fontan Pathway

The LHM Open Day runs from 10.00 a.m. until 4.30 p.m., followed by parties for the children until 6.30 p.m. Our AGM will be held during the day where the Trustee Board will present an overview of the year’s work, the annual accounts and conduct Trustee elections. A special part of the AGM is to create a moment of memory for the children that have been lost. They are always close to our hearts.

The next Brave Heart Awards will be presented during the day. For more information about the awards and how to apply click here.

The focus of this event is the Fontan pathway. The build up to surgery, the challenges of recovery and the lifestyle challenges faced by the children as they grow up  with a Fontan circulation. We have worked to link the children’s and youth sessions so that there is a flow of age appropriate information across all of our workshops.

So every parent has an opportunity to gain as much from the workshops and speaker sessions as possible we also have a crèche facility. (Please note, our crèche team are very well-trained and have been running our crèche service for many years. They are all briefed about the needs of the children but every parent leaving a child in the crèche, or the youth group workshops, will need to fully complete the information sheet to ensure that all the child’s needs are well supported. The crèche and LHM team always find a parent if a child is unhappy and toys are available for parents to stay with their child in the coffee and chat area if they are not happy to be without mum or dad).

The children and youth groups will be split into age appropriate workshops that will include some sibling sessions as well as a 16& space to chat. The 8 to 11 year-olds will have their own focussed sessions run in a play and learn fashion so that they can have a fun-filled day with plenty of supported learning.

There will also be an Information Fayre next to the coffee area. We have asked a number of individual specialists to come along and provide an opportunity to explore some of the day-to-day challenges, one-to-one. We’ll also have our LHM stands where members can chat to the team, find out about raising awareness and how we fundraise to support our members.

The Open Day will finish at 4.30 p.m. Our evening activities consist of two children’s parties, during which mums and dads will have plenty of tea, coffee and cake to keep them going!. Parents of the children aged 0 to 11 years will be responsible for their children and the party, but the youth group’s parents need not stay with their children as the youth team will continue to look after them until 6.30 p.m.

A children’s tea party will be held with a party tea and an entertainer from 5.0 p.m. upstairs in the restaurant.

Teenagers and young adults will be able to attend a pizza and movie party in the youth group rooms.

There are hotel facilities on site, although the number of family rooms are limited, details of accommodation options can be found here. We have also included places where families might like to go and eat after the parties have finished.

We welcome health and educational professionals, so if you know a nurse, doctor, teacher or classroom assistant who would also like to come along, please complete the professional application form here.

The number of member’s wishing to attend the Open Day increases each year so we have had to limit numbers for this year’s event. Please could you complete the application form as soon as possible if you wish to attend on this new date. We will then email you to confirm your place.

“Being in hospital having surgery at this difficult time is hard but we’re thankful that extra measures have been put into place to protect her including a room of her own whilst she recovers and gets fit enough to go home and isolate 💕 “
