Inspiration of the Month

Every month we are amazed at the lengths and sometimes the outstanding strides that you go to fundraising in support of the work of Little Hearts Matter.

Some of the stories are a real inspiration not only to us in the office but to others who are about to take their first fundraising steps in support of your charity.

Each month we will highlight an individual or group whose endeavours either stand out in terms of income or more importantly perhaps in terms of the effort taken to achieve their aim.

July 2010

Our inspiration of the month for July is Kirsty Moore.

Most little girls want ponies, dolls and a whole list of things for their birthday – but not Kirsty. For her birthday she asked that nobody bring her presents and instead they all make a donation to LHM. She also held a little sweetie shop and sold sweets to her friends and family. In total she raised a wonderful £207.48.

Kirsty’s Mum Tricia says, “Kirsty asked people to donate to Little Hearts Matter in memory of her brother Lewis who died in 2007. He had HLHS. Kirsty only got to know him for a few days but yet she still talks about him.”

“My husband Davie and I are so very proud of her, she is such a special girl. Kirsty has helped David and I come to terms with losing Lewis. She just doesn’t realise how much she has helped us.”

June 2010

Jack has always been a keen fundraiser for LHM, but his current ingenious idea has blown us all away.  Jack who is now running his own not-for-profit business to raise money for Little Hearts Matter - the charity which cared for him.

With help from his dad John, who used to work for shoe firm Clark's, Jack sells slippers of all shapes and sizes at craft fairs, and visits customers at their home, care home, or sheltered accommodation through his business, Hearts and Soles.

The self-confessed “computer freak”, who admits he isn't a slipper person, also runs his own website and is youth editor of village magazine, the Polden Post.

Jack recently said in a newspaper interview “The charity has supported me and my family all my life and I wanted to give something back so I thought this would be the perfect way, especially with my dad's knowledge of the trade, and I love it.”

Jack, all of us at LHM were really touched buy the depth of your efforts and your continuous support for the charity.  Thank you so much and keep us updated.

November 2009

Our Inspirational Fundraiser of the Month for November is Jan Walsh.

Jan, a self confessed stroller who is never far from her car, decided to take on the Shugborough Hall event in October and ran/walked the 5Km course and raised a huge amount of money. Well done Jan and thank you to those who supported her.

October 2009

Our Inspirational Fundraiser of the Month for October is Will Goodenough.

Will spent a great deal of time over the past month helping to publicise our work and to highlight service provision, the Youth Council and the Shugborough Hall run where he and his family have raised hundreds of pounds in sponsorship. Well done Will an thank you to all who support him.

September 2009

Our inspirational fundraiser of the month for September is Phil Davies from Tadley in Hampshire.

Phil and his bike took part in this year's “London to Brighton Bike Ride” for you and raised a fabulous muscle crunching £700. Not only that he then told his company Nokia about us and they donated a further £7500. A great example of flying our flag for you all. And guess what? It really does work.

You don’t have to do an event like Phil did but you can help just as much by opening a door for us to walk through.

You know if we don’t tell people about our children they will never know and they won’t help. When people do hear about us they do help. Can you help me help you? Please think it over. It’s amazing who you know!

August 2009

The Kerry Family

Our inspirational fundraiser of the month for August is Robert Kerry.

With money still coming in from Leeds Castle run in March its nice to nominate a sibling who has worked hard to support his younger brother.15 year old Robert Kerry, whose younger brother Andrew has HLHS, sent us £234.50 in hard earned sponsor money.

Well done Robert you certainly inspire us all here in Birmingham.

July 2009

When Catarina set herself the target of swimming the English Channel she only had one problem, that’s apart from the 22 miles, she lives a long way away from the channel!!!

So not to be outdone Catarina swam 1416 lengths of her local swimming pool, yes that’s 1416 lengths to achieve the 22 mile distance.

May 2009

Smile you're on candid camera

Our first inspirational fundraiser for the month of May 2009 is high-flying Mandy Pearce from Redditch near Birmingham who as her picture shows took her life and her fear of heights in her hands when she parachuted to raise vital funds in support of our services.

Mandy says:

"It was brilliant, both Jamie who I jumped with, and I loved it.  We're both been really proud of ourselves to do something we have been saying that we would do for years and it makes it even better knowing that the money we have raised can help members of Little Heart Matters.  We are so grateful to all our family and friends who have supported us and have given money to a brilliant charity."

Well done Mandy, you're brilliant!
